What I Learned at Podcast Summit 2025

The strategies, tools, and mindset shifts that actually move the needle from last week's conference.

I just got back from Podcast Summit 2025, and my brain is officially on fire.

Two days. 20+ speakers. Endless notes filled with ideas, strategies, motivation, and tools that I can implement this week. And I am actually implementing some of the tools I picked up this week.

Here's what hit me the hardest: most people are still treating podcasting like a hobby when it should be treated like a business asset. And this is a very important mindset and habit shift that I am sure so many of us overlook.

The podcasters making real money? They think differently. They move differently. And they definitely don't wait for permission.

What's inside today:

  • The #1 mindset shift every serious podcaster needs

  • 7 AI tools that are changing the game right now

  • Why consistency beats perfection (and the proof)

  • The monetization strategy nobody talks about

  • How to turn your expertise into guaranteed revenue

This Week's Learning (from Podcast Summit 2025)

  • Strategy: Jeremy Lermitte's (Co-Founder at RedCircle) presentation on advertising revealed that brands are paying $75 CPM (per 1,000 downloads) on average for the right podcasts. The sweet spot is really shows with 5,000+ monthly downloads consistently in specific niches like entrepreneurship, mental health, wellness, and relationships.

  • AI Tool: Notebook.lm by Google is free and perfect for podcast prep. Upload your research, and it will create mind maps, explainer videos, and even suggest interview questions for guests that you might not have thought about. In addition, it will also read your prep document like an interview will you’re on a walk, run or drive to save time and be more efficient in research. Game-changer for content creators.

  • Revenue Insight: The EYL (Earn Your Leisure) team shared their $4M event strategy for InvestFest (August 22-24) and EYL University (a subscription based model) makes up the majority of their annual revenue. Key takeaway: give valuable information for free, help people make money with it, and they'll come back for more premium offerings.

  • Platform Update: Instagram is now a full search engine and truly should be treated as such. Title your video content as common questions your audience asks, and you'll start showing up better and topmost in search results. Figuratively, replace question marks with dollar signs. Every question your audience would ask is a monetization opportunity for your business.

What I Learned at Podcast Summit 2025

I attended Podcast Summit last week in Atlanta and it was so much more than just podcasting. It was strategy, motivation, tools and how to use them, and best practices, as well as a true call to take action.

Here are some of my notes that I hope will actually help you in some way to move your thoughts and stories via a podcast forward.

1. Your Podcast Won't Blow Up Until You Do

This one hit different.

One of the biggest eyeopeners during this event was understanding that when we are struggling with our podcast in whatever capacity, "It's not a podcast problem. It's an identity problem."

Your show is only as strong as the person behind it. If you're not clear on who you are as an individual outside of all the titles and responsibilities that others place on us and that we place on ourselves and you don’t know for sure what you stand for, your content and branding will reflect that confusion.

The application: Stop tweaking your format and start working on your core message. Spend 20-30 minutes before each episode thinking about the rationale behind what you're sharing and why it actually matters to you and to your audience.

2. “Consistency Is the Only Cheat Code”

Many of the speakers hammered this message home, but David Shands (the event’s creator and host) said it best: "Consistency is the only cheat code."

KevOnStage shared that he posts 3 videos every day to 7 platforms. Not because he's superhuman, but because he's committed to outworking everyone in his industry. If you’ve not seen KevOnStage’s content, something must be wrong with your WiFi connection because he is literally everywhere.

The application: Your competition isn't really other podcasters. It's Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, TikTok, and every other thing demanding your audience's attention. You win in the long-term by showing up when others don't.

3. AI Is Your New Production Assistant

The AI revolution for podcasters is here and growing. These 7 tools are changing everything when it comes to podcasting:

  • Brandwell.ai - Content strategy and planning as well as AI content checker

  • Otter.ai - Transcription that actually works well (another one that I use here is Riverside.FM)

  • Claude.ai - Turn your show transcripts into ebooks, blog posts, and social content that you can use to grow your brand, email list, and revenue

  • Elevenlabs.io - Clone your voice for intro/outros, episodes, ads and sound effects

  • Opus.PRO - Clips long-form content into short from clips with virality scores so you can know what to post to YouTube Shorts, IG Reels, and TikTok without guessing

  • HeyGen - Create your AI twin for increated community interaction and never be without anything to post — literally

  • Notebook.lm - Research and interview prep assistance at your fingertips

The application: With the advancement and massive integration of AI, we are truly moving from “being doers to directors,” as Cynthia Respert said during her session. Let AI handle the busy work so you can focus on strategy, relationships, and revenue.

4. Answer Engine Optimization Is the New SEO

Google is now showing answers to questions at the top of search results, not just links. In my marketing work for many of my clients, we have shifted from creating content just to rank on page 1 to creating content that answers users’ questions specifically, comprehensively, and immediately.

Alquincia Selolwane dropped this advice in her session: Find the top 25 questions in your industry, buy domains with those questions, and forward them to your content or business. Thank her later.

The application: Title your YouTube videos and social media captions as questions. Every time someone asks a question, see it as an opportunity to make money. “More money doesn’t equally more problems in this world. More problems = more money.”

5. Short-Form Content Wins (But Not How You Think)

Everyone's talking about short-form content, but the real winners in this space and in content creation in general are using it strategically.

The application: Create polarizing conversations. Ask thought-provoking questions. Don’t be afraid to share your opinion, even if it is controversial. Everything these days is controversial to someone somewhere.

If you're a transformation specialist, poke at the problem you solve: "You're struggling with X because you're not doing Y and I help you do Y so you can achieve XYZ."

It might feel harsh, but passion converts better than politeness.

6. Build an Ecosystem, Not Just a Show

The most successful podcasters don't just have shows—they have ecosystems.

Here is a clear framework that you can think through for your own podcast:

  • Clear niche (be specific)

  • Strong point of view (what you think is what your audience is buying)

  • Multiple touchpoints (podcast, community, courses, guest appearances, consulting, events, partnerships, sponsorships)

  • Consistent schedule (treat it like TV programming). Your favorite shows come on the same time, same day each week. Right? So should you.

7. Use Your Podcast as a Lead Magnet, Not the Product

This was one of the biggest mindset shifts for me.

Your podcast isn't your business. It's marketing and demand generation for your business.

The application: “Are your conversations curated for conversions?” as Donni Wiggins asked us during her keynote session. Every episode should guide listeners toward their next best action and ultimately to your paid offerings.

8. Monetization Starts at 1,000 Downloads

Forget what you've heard about needing massive hundreds of thousands of listeners to monetize your audience.

Many brands will seriously start to consider partnerships at 5,000+ monthly downloads, but you can start monetizing your own products and services at just 1,000 downloads. Even without brand sponsorships, you can generate revenue through your own thought leadership, consulting, products, and services.

The application: Revenue comes from relationships, not just reach.

Podcast Summit ultimately reminded me why I love this space.

The podcasters winning aren't just creating content. They're building transformative businesses for themselves and for others. They're not waiting for downloads to hit some magical number. They're serving their audiences now and monetizing along the way.

If you walked away from this newsletter with just one thing, let it be this: Stop waiting. Create now. Keep going. Your audience is ready when you are.

That’s like four things but you get the point. 😊

If you need help getting starting, defining a clear message, building out your funnel, and getting clarity on what you want your podcast to do for you and for others, my calendar is open over the next couple of weeks to help you do just that. Book your 1:1 30-minute session today.
